BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
GOOD TO
KNOW.
Clear answers before you arrive—from choosing the right appointment to understanding how James approaches texture, technique and suitability.
01Is this the James Annabel who worked at Shibui and Delilah Hair Studio?+
Yes. James formerly worked at Shibui Hair in South Yarra and Delilah Hair Studio in Brunswick East. He now welcomes clients one-to-one at his private studio inside The George, St Kilda, Melbourne.
02Which haircut appointment should I choose?+
Choose 60 minutes for a considered signature haircut, or 90 minutes when you want a major transformation, significant restyle or extra consultation time. If you are unsure, text James before booking.
03Are appointments priced by gender?+
No. Haircuts are priced by time and the work required—not by gender, age or hair length alone.
04What happens during the consultation?+
James considers your natural texture, density, features, lifestyle, styling habits and how you want the haircut to grow. You can bring reference images, but the final shape is designed for you rather than copied onto you.
05How should I prepare my hair for the appointment?+
Unless James has advised you differently, arrive with your hair dry, down and worn as naturally as possible. Avoid tight ponytails, clips or very heavy product beforehand so James can clearly see your texture, movement, growth patterns and current shape.
06Does James cut hair dry or wet?+
Both. James works across precision, dry and razor cutting and may combine methods during one appointment. The technique is chosen according to your texture and the result—not applied as a fixed system.
07Does James specialise in curly and textured hair?+
Yes. James works with curly, wavy and textured hair and has advanced international training in curl-specific cutting. The aim is a shape that respects your natural pattern and remains wearable between appointments.
08Can I book if I do not know exactly what I want?+
Absolutely. Suitability is central to the appointment. You can arrive with a strong idea, several references or no fixed answer; James will help refine the direction with you.
09Is the studio private?+
Yes. Appointments take place one-to-one at Studio The George, 129 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda. The studio is open seven days, 9am–7pm, by appointment.
10Can I request a quiet appointment?+
Yes. Quiet appointments are always welcome. Let James know when booking if you would prefer minimal conversation and a calmer appointment. You are equally welcome to chat, laugh and enjoy the natural energy of the studio—the time can be shaped around what helps you feel most comfortable.
11Is the studio LGBTQ+ welcoming and culturally inclusive?+
Yes. Studio The George is an LGBTQ+ welcoming, culturally sensitive and inclusive space. Every gender identity, sexuality, culture and hair texture is respected. Appointments are priced according to time and the work required, never by gender.
12How do I get to the studio?+
Routes 16 and 96 stop near the door, St Kilda Junction is around five minutes away, and Windsor Station is approximately a 20-minute walk. Street, Wilson and Woolworths Metro parking options are detailed on the Studio page.
13How do I book or ask a question?+
Text James directly on 0401 554 235. Include your name, the service you are considering and—if useful—a current photograph of your hair.
