70 SEC · BY JAMESTHE DIFFERENCE
Curl pattern, shrinkage, density, growth patterns and the way you style at home are assessed before the shape is decided.
There is no fixed branded system. Wet, dry, precision and freehand techniques are combined according to what your hair actually needs.
Weight is placed and removed deliberately, creating definition, balance and movement that still work as the hair grows.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE
Clear information for clients who want to understand the shape, technique, appointment and grow-out before booking.
Curly hair is not one category. Loose waves, ringlets, coils, Afro-textured hair and heads containing several patterns all respond differently to length, weight, shrinkage and styling.
James does not impose a branded cutting system or a single ideal of curl definition. He assesses natural texture, density, growth, lifestyle and the result the client actually wants, then combines wet, dry, precision and freehand methods accordingly.
Shape that encourages movement without demanding maximum curl definition.
Weight preserved carefully so the haircut gains structure without losing substance.
Internal weight managed strategically to create space, balance and a more useful silhouette.
Shrinkage, density, expansion and shape considered with respect for the hair’s natural behaviour.
Compact shapes designed around spring, hairline, profile and controlled volume placement.
Movement and volume built without allowing the perimeter or crown to become uncontrolled.
Different areas may contract by different amounts, so the shape is judged in the hair’s real state.
Where weight is preserved or removed determines whether the silhouette feels balanced, triangular, flat or overly round.
The haircut is designed around whether you air-dry, diffuse, stretch, straighten or move between several finishes.
Curl is treated as a texture—not a personality, rulebook or obligation to wear hair one prescribed way.
For the clearest assessment, bring the hair dry, detangled and close to its normal natural state without a tight style that distorts the pattern.
Pattern, shrinkage, density, growth and previous structure are read before choosing a method.
Wet control, dry shaping, individual refinement and internal weight work are combined as needed.
The hair is finished in a way that supports your routine, with practical guidance rather than an unnecessarily complicated ritual.
Most curly haircuts: 60 minutes. First-time transformations, corrections, very dense/long hair or extra education: 90 minutes.
Haircut $150 · Transformation/extra time $220.
Many clients return every 3–6 months; some extend longer depending on shape, length, routine and preference.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Dry assessment and refinement are central, but James is not restricted to one method. Some shapes benefit from wet structure followed by dry personalisation; others are built predominantly dry.
